Dear Colleague:
You are requested to be a participant at the Texas Oral Health Summit: Advocacy, Equity & Access. Your expertise and experience would be a tremendous asset to the discussions and deliberations at the Texas Oral Health Summit.
The Texas Oral Health Summit will be held on September 9-10, 2004 at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown, 700 San Jacinto at 8th Street, Austin, Texas. The Summit will begin at 12:30 pm on Thursday, September 9th and conclude at 3:30 pm on the Friday, September 10th.

The Department of Community Dentistry, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School is collaborating with the Maternal and Child Health Program (Title V) and Oral Health Program Texas Department of Health on the Texas Oral Health Summit.
The Summit is a part of the Activating a Collaborative Oral Health Plan in Texas Project. This Project is supported by Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration, USDHHS through the State Oral Health Collaborative Systems Grant Program. Five regional listening sessions, held in the Spring of 2004, provided community input to this initiative.

The Goals of the Texas Oral Health Summit are to:
Discuss critical oral health issues that impact children, adolescents, adults and elders in Texas
Present promising approaches to enhance oral health surveillance, build capacity, and develop infrastructure for oral health improvements
Identify best practices for community efforts to prevent oral diseases and promote oral health
Discuss strategies to expand access to dental care for children and adults in urban and rural areas
Highlight opportunities to maximize resources and increase access to clinical services for children through the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Medicaid
Explore the necessity of coalition-building and proactive advocacy for policies, programs, and practices to promote oral health in Texas
Provide feedback and contribute to an Oral Health Plan for Texas
Foster collaboration and dialogue about regional gaps, coalitions, and the implementation of oral health initiatives to improve oral health in Texas

The Registration Fee for the Texas Oral Health Summit is $25.00. The deadline for pre-registration is September 6, 2004.

Your prompt response will assist us in organizing and making the final arrangements for the Texas Oral Health Summit. Confirmed participants will receive an emailing of the Summit Agenda and background materials to review before the Summit. The draft Collaborative Oral Health Plan for Texas will be included in this emailing.

If you need reservations in Austin for the nights of September 8th and/or September 9th please make your reservations directly with the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown, 700 San Jacinto at 8th Street, Austin, Texas. Call the Omni Austin Hotel at 512-476-3700 and refer to the “Texas Oral Health Summit.” A block of rooms has been reserved at $80 + tax per night until August 24, 2004, at 12:00 Noon for guests of this Summit, after this date the rooms are only on a space-available basis.

Super Shuttle (800) 258-3826 is available from Austin-Bergstrom Airport for $11.00 one-way. No reservation is required. For the return to the airport call (512) 258-3826, 24 hours prior to reserve a place.
